Best electrolytes for running

There is no universal winner. The useful choice is the format and label that fit your run, fluid plan, stomach, climate, and personal sweat losses.

Our position: SaltStick Capsules are the only option here currently used by SALTBLAST's founder. The remaining products are researched candidates, not hands-on recommendations.

Choose by run

Short or easy: water and normal meals may be enough for many people. An electrolyte product is not automatically necessary.

Long, hot, or high-sweat: sodium, fluid, carbohydrate, and tolerance become more relevant. Test a plan in training—not on race day.

No bottle: capsules are compact, but still require adequate water and careful label following.

What to compare

  • • Sodium per serving and per litre actually mixed
  • • Carbohydrate versus sugar-free formulation
  • • Serving size and total cost per usable serving
  • • Taste, portability, and gastrointestinal tolerance
  • • Caffeine or other added ingredients

Bottom line

Start with the simplest option that matches the session. A capsule excels at portability, a tablet at easy mixing, and a carbohydrate drink can combine fuel with fluid on longer outings. Follow product directions and seek qualified medical advice if you have a health condition or questions about sodium or hydration.
